Powered by the legendary Colombo V-12, a beautifully engineered motor capable of producing 300 horsepower, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 is capable of reaching 150 mph before you can say “Mamma Mia!”
Despite the awesome capability of the front-engine, real-wheel drive Ferrari GT 2+2, its comfortable interior and easily positioned controls provide a relaxing driving experience.
This model was introduced at the 1964 Brussels Motor Show and quickly caught the attention of the motoring world because of its spaciousness – enough room for four passengers and luggage – and its awe-inspiring speed.
Although some owners of these early Ferraris insist they are quite easy to work on, there are others who consider it blasphemy for anyone other than a certified Ferrari meccanico to do the work. –Larry Sanata

It’s a bright and beautiful at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and despite being surrounded by a multitude of exotic sports cars, the 1967 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, with its silver body and red interior, stood out brilliantly.
For Charles Hazle, his GT model is the epitome of the early Ferrari and a wise choice for those wanting a classic Ferrari.
“They are kind of unusual,” he says, because they represent the last of the straight-forward ladder-frame Ferraris, which were similar to the Ferrari race cars of the ‘50s, making them highly responsive, as well as very driver-friendly sports car.
They also are powered by the legendary Colombo V-12 engine, a beautifully engineered motor capable of producing 300 horsepower and catapulting the car to 150 mph.
Despite the awesome capability of the front-engine, real-wheel drive 330, it’s a “wonderfully driving car,” Hazle explains.
The 330 GT 2+2 was introduced at the 1964 Brussels Motor Show and quickly caught the attention of the motoring world because of its spaciousness – enough room for four passengers and luggage -- yet capable of awe-inspiring speed.
Hazle bought the beautiful GT about 10 years ago and drives it as often as he can. This car, which was the last such model built, shows 38,000-some kilometers and is one of a handful of exotics owned by the Cleveland enthusiast, including a 1954 Ferrari 120M.
But the 330 is special.
“What you have here is pretty much a bullet-proof car.”
And he insists that it’s an exotic car that owners could work on themselves, with a little knowledge and patience. The suspension is straight forward, the engine is accessible and the car has disc brakes. Of course, if the dual distributors and fuel pumps worry you, most any Ferrari mechanic would welcome the opportunity to work on this Ferrari for you.
If the 330 GT 2+2 doesn’t turn you on, there’s also the 250GT, which preceded the 330. But Hazle warns that it doesn’t possess the road manners of the 330. And while ‘50s Ferrari cars are interesting, they are very, very expensive and have their own peculiarities.
“The driving experience is very good in this car (the 330GT). I don’t think you get much better driving experience in an earlier car,” Hazle explains.
But be prepared to pay for that pleasure. Ferrari 330 GTs, of which 1,080 were made, command anywhere from $70,000 to $150,000’’ he says almost apologetically.
“But that’s Ferrari,” he adds a moment later.
