BMW 635 CSi (1977-89)

Aside from being one of the most attractive BMW coupes ever made, the 1986 BMW 635 CSi was honored as BMW Art Car Number 6, painted by Robert Rauschenberg in 1986. His take on the sleek Bimmer was a far cry from the cars before it, and appropriately so.

The CSi, which still today has a loyal following, went through several iterations during its production run. The later models typically are more desirable because of their ample power. They were equipped with an inline-six that produced a tad more than 180 horsepower at 182 BHP at 5,400 RPM and 214 ft.lbs of torque at 4,000 RPM – not bad for a car capable of transporting four people in spacious comfort.

Equipped with either an automatic transmission or five-speed, the two-door 635 CSi got from point A to B in exhilarating fashion. Its low stance and slippery body made a statement, either parked or in motion. And an eclectic mix of suspension goodies, provided surprisingly sure-footed stability, whether traveling to a cocktail party or doing some spirited highway driving. –LS
