1955-56 Chevy Bel Air
T he Chevy Bel Air got a lot of guys in big trouble in 1956. That was the year Chevrolet stuffed its new 265-cubic-inch V-8 in the Bel Air. Weighing less than Fords and Plymouths of the time, the Bel Air was a more than worthy competition for just about anyone at the traffic light.
While original Bel Airs could be a problem finding because of their popularity – then and now – with hot rod and muscle car types, original and unmolested examples still exist. We hope.
By 1956, the Bel Air was available with not only one four-barrel carburetor, but two. And while the additional power was an added plus, GM engineers worked hard to cater to every imaginable buyer.
The Bel Air was offered as a 2-door Sedan, 2-door Sport Hardtop Coupe, 2-door Convertible, 2-door Nomad, 4-door Sedan and 4-door Beauville Station Wagon. –LS
