Lamborghini Miura: 1966-73

W ho would think a car company founded by someone accustomed to manufacturing tractors and appliances would be best known for futuristic styling coupled with ferocious power? A look at the Lamborghini Miura is a look into truly awe-inspiring automobilia, compliments of Ferruccio Lamborghini.

The story goes that Ferruccio became so disgruntled with a Ferrari he had purchased he decided to do one better - build his own Italian supercars.

Like most Lamborghinis made during the ‘60s and ‘70s, the Miura was powered by a screaming DOHC V-12. Its styling, however, was more reminiscent of a LeMans prototype. The front and back of the car were hinged, providing easy access to most every component.

Although the interior was a bit tight for most drivers, the sounds and smells of the Miura – ever so heightened with the engine directly behind the car’s two seats – were exhilarating. –LS
