BMW Museum

A visit to Munich would be pointless without time spent at the BMW Museum, especially if you have even the slightest interest in automobiles. Inside the breathtakingly modern structure that is home to the museum are seven exhibition houses. Within those houses, you’ll find displays of all sorts and sizes – from lovingly restored classic motor cars, race cars and motorcycles to gleaming free-standing aircraft and automobile engines.

In the House of Design, you have an opportunity to see how future BMWs are created – ideas on a computer screen to full-size creations. In the House of Motor Sport, you will see race cars alongside racing motorcycles. Since 1923, BMW has been involved in motorcycle racing.

The BMW Museum also is home to the fascinating BMW Art Car Collection. Since 1975, some of the world’s best known and most daring artists have created “rolling masterpieces,” with their artistry on BMW cars.

Today, 16 such art cars are assigned to the museum collection, but many of them also spend time at exhibits elsewhere around the world. BMW Museum officials insist that at least one of the cars is always on display in Munich.
