Mercedes-Benz Museum
H oused in a labyrinth of concrete, glass and metal, the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart pays homage to Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, and what is considered the oldest automobile factory in the world. About 160 vehicles, most of them with historical significance, are housed in this incredibly complex and modernistic structure.
Inside is Daimler’s first Mercedes, a record-breaking 1934 W25 Silver Arrow, a handful of 300 SLR race cars, a 1924 Mercedes Targa-Floria racer, custom coaches used by Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Hirohito, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz T80 record car, a 1927 Mercedes SSK, Sauber Mercedes and Indy racers built by Mercedes-Benz.
Visitors travel along serpentine walkways to view majestic displays inside the spacious structure, which seems to have erupted from the earth below.
Considered to be the largest automotive museum in the world, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is a celebration of not only this company’s greatest automotive creations, but a breathtaking architectural accomplishment that highlights the inventiveness of this German manufacturer.
